Who Will Be Watching The Watchmen?

I know I will be when the film comes out March (2009).

Watchmen is important because is changed how superheros were thought of. They were no longer perfect moral compasses for the rest of society to follow. They would kill and be killed, were flawed and brutally realistic. That people and governments would outlaw heroes was a foreign idea before Watchmen.

To the non-comic reading people out there, you really should go see Watchmen. In fact you've already seen stuff that owes it's existence to this Alan Moore series.

Heroes the television series owes a lot to Watchmen if not in tone and characterization but also plot. Even Pixar's The Incredibles with it's kid friendly story was influenced by Watchmen. And if you're interested there are countless comic series such as Kingdom Come and Powers you should read.

Writer's Strike Over...

...but all is not well. Apparently we might have to wait until the fall to see more episodes of Heroes. At least we have Lost, which is off to a pretty good start (in my opinion).

Writers' strike could end today

A tentative agreement reached over the weekend between striking writers and major Hollywood studios could bring new episodes of hit TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation back to prime time in a matter of weeks.

TV sitcoms, which are the easiest to produce, could have stars back in front of the cameras on Hollywood soundstages by the end of next week, which would mean new episodes on-air by the first week of March, according to several Hollywood producers.

The picture is less clear for big-budget, serialized, action-adventure series such as NBC's Heroes and Fox's 24. There is not enough time before the end of May to play out full story arcs, and the networks have come to understand that even hit shows in this genre lose audience interest when they go on hiatus.

i joined this heroes discussion group at the beginning of the 2nd season and this is my first post. my ONLY post.

and the only reason why i'm posting this one and only post is because i am eager to see the continuation of the 2nd season. but what that even happen? with the writers' strike, who knows when they will get around to getting back to writing the 2nd part of season two at all?

*sniff* i miss hot, peter petrelli. even though he was a bit of an idiot at times.

Best TV Episodes of 2007

Well the year is almost out, which means a list! Not just any list, but a list of bests! So without further ado...

24 "9:00 AM - 10:00 AM"
This season was so bleh I didn't even finish up the season, but it started off so strong. This episode, where the 24 producers decided to nuke Valencia, CA, was a particularly strong one. I remember being on the edge of my seat for the entire 4 hour premiere.

30 Rock "Somebody to Love"
With so many top rate episodes, picking one standout was hard. But I felt this one stood out as a best of 2007. I mean, the one liners alone ranked this episode. If I were to introduce someone to 30 Rock, I'd do it with this episode.

Battlestar Galactica "Maelstrom"
While I was watching this episode, I remember thinking this was probably my favorite of the season. Then Kara "died". So it no longer held that title. But knowing Kara isn't dead changes everything. This episode regains it's spot as my fave of 2007. I mean, it was such a moving episode, especially for Kara. It really built on stuff established from the beginning about her past. I swore at the time I'd never watch this again, but clearly that's going to change.

Dexter "Resistance is Futile"
This was a hard choice for me, since every episode this season has been spot-on excellent. I almost put "Left Turn Ahead" as my favorite (with a resigned Dexter planning to turn himself in), but I looked over the episodes, and went with this one. What better moment is there, Doakes surprising Dexter at the cabin? I love how, even though Doakes knew Dex was weird and odd, he was still shocked by the revelation. Brilliant.

Doctor Who "Utopia"
A serious no brainer here. How many times did I watch this the week it aired? 8? 9? Yeah. I think so. So good I wrote about it twice. After what I considered a pretty mediocre season, Davies comes and blows me away with this little gem and breathed new life into the show. Turns out that lasted only one other episode before crapping on the finale. But I still adore "Utopia" to death.

Grey's Anatomy "Some Kind of Miracle"
From the reactions I heard from this episode, it was either love it or hate it. I loved it. This was an emotional slam dunk incorporating all the greatest characters into one surreal, out of body episode. Ep damn near broke my heart, too. Gotta love the closure, with Mere and her mom. I have to give a mention to an episode I completely forgot when creating this list, "Wishin' and Hopin'". I forgot how moved I was by Meredith and her really cold mom. That's probably why I loved "Some Kind of Miracle", it closed the wounds opened by the earlier episode.

Heroes "Distractions"
I almost went with "Company Man" or "Five Years Gone", but I felt that I couldn't ignore the awesomeness that was Claude. For a character that appeared in so few episodes, he left a big mark. A number of casual fans (not freaks like me) cited him as a fave. So I went with distractions, the episode that sent my already Hell-bound ship (Peter/Claire) further into Hell. To a special Hell. Yup, my favorite Heroes episode of 2007 involved that revelation. But really, Claude tormenting Peter by stealing a purse and leaving, has to be a top moment. And you know what, Peter still had a serious Claire/love moment after Claude pushed him off that roof and he healed. Ah, yet another reason to adore him. Oh Chris, please come back, Heroes needs you.

House "Insensitive"
This was a fairly easy choice for me. The episode where Cameron wants to have casual sex with Chase. Duh. But other stuff happened, like House getting all obsessive over a girl who doesn't feel pain, and stalking down Cuddy during dates and to her home. Yeah. Awesome.

LOST "One of Us"
I'm thrilled that there were so many contenders to choose from for this title. I mean, you have "Flashes Before Your Eyes" the Desmond, parallel world flash(back?). Then you've got the brilliant finale, and there was a great Claire episode and an interesting Ben ep too. Basically, almost every episode, except 1 in 2007 was great, if not amazing. But I went with the heartbreaking Juliet on-island flashback instead of the heartbreaking Desmond one. I'm making a stand and saying Juliet's my favorite other. How can your heart not break for her as she believes her sister to be dead? Elizabeth Mitchell, my metaphorical hat goes off to you.

Pushing Daisies "Pie-Lette"
Psht, like there's even a question. This one episode spawned an unhealthy obsession. I posted about it 7 times before it even aired. I definitely watched this episode over and over like a dozen times. As I said before, my favorite episode of the series.

Scrubs "My Musical"
Oh this ranks probably because, as a fan of the show, I've been waiting for this for years. And it delivered. Enormously. Brilliantly. I'm really happy it aired in 2007, just so I can talk about it some more.

The Office (US) "Back From Vacation"
This was a tough one, since I already made a stand on "Gay Witch Hunt" as my all time favorite from that season. So a second favorite was tough. I mean I almost went with "The Job", the lol-able season finale. But really, Michael sending a scandalous picture of Jan to the co-workers? Brilliance. I watched this episode recently, and yes, it was hysterical.

Veronica Mars "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down"
Wow, I didn't even write about this episode. I remember watching this episode, the one before the finale, and thinking it was very old school. Weevil was badass and in trouble, Veronica was helping him and being slick. Then the finale aired, and it was kinda underwhelming, especially since it was a series finale.

So I figured, while I'm calling this the best VM ep of 2007, I'd give a shout out to what me at the time probably thought was the best. "Debasement Tapes", which unfortunately I remember very little of, other than Paul Fucking Rudd being fucking awesome. But according to me-at-the-time, everyone was pretty in character and all the wacky shipping worked out.

And then, another part of me was going to be slick and say the best episode of 2007 was that 15 minute Veronica-goes-CIA pilot, but that wasn't really the best, and it would be more of a philosophical statement about the state of the show.

In other news, I totally saw Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and yeah, it rocked. It rocked on so many different levels of rocking.

end of volume two

The last episode of this season. I want to say "finally" but I wish they had had more time, because I'm confident they'd have been able to do a lot more with the show if they'd had it.

1. If you notice that this post is a little lackluster and unenthusiastic, that's because I'm finding that Doctor Who is a tough act to follow. I finally gave in to the harassment of my entire family and started to watch it, and it turns out that it's nothing like what I thought it was and I love it a lot. The only reason this post is here at all is because the site I was watching Doctor Who on stopped working, and I had nothing else to do.
2. Aaaand I hate you, WGA strike. This episode of Heroes is the last of the season because of you. That means the whole season just sucked because they had to cut stuff out and rush it through to the new, alternate ending. Although if this means the writers decided to sacrifice having Caitlin in the show, that's one for the "pro" list.
3. Maya is wearing an apron that says "World's Greatest Dad." Are the writers trying to insinuate that Maya is really a man?
4. Yeah, I know it's not her apron. Maya's not a man. It was a joke. Thank you.
5. Sylar, if you kill Mohinder, I will not mind.
6. Maya's power is so lame.
7. Um... so Adam's master plan is to wipe the Earth clean, because it isn't worth fixing. I'm pretty sure that is really anticlimactic.
8. We are not gonna need to kill Peter. Everybody calm down.
9. Anticlimactic Peter/Hiro fight. Unsurprising.
10. I feel bad for Elle.
11. Micah, go away.
12. Haha! I like Adam and Peter's walk down that hallway, just pushing people out of the way. Badass.
13. I thought Mr. Bennett killed Mohinder's dad, not Sylar. But I don't remember.
14. "Okay, we don't talk about that... ever again." Ha. Yeah, good idea Parkman.
15. Wait, Hiro and Parkman have never met before...? Okay, I guess.
16. Thank you, West, for being intelligent and telling Claire not to be stupid and tell everyone about her powers.
17. Oh no, they're breaking up. West didn't even fight for her though. I think she was expecting him to.
18. Aww, Mr. Bennett got to go back home.
19. Maya's about to find out that Sylar killed her brother.
20. HAHAHA, Sylar just rolled his eyes when Maya came and accused him of killing her brother. And then he just shot her! Okay that was my favorite death scene.
21. Sylar: "You and I have trust issues, doctor."
22. Why does the Company even want Mr. Bennett back? I don't get it.
23. I want Peter's long hair back.
24. PETER. That is not nice. Stop doing that.
25. Why don't Parkman and Peter just talk to each other? You know, with words? Use your words.
26. GIVE ME A BREAK. If Adam says ONE word about Hiro stealing Mulan from him I will be more than pissed off. It's been four hundred years dude. Time to move on.
27. Okay he didn't. That's good.
28. Nathan: "Peter. You're not responsible for something that MIGHT have happened." Thank you Nathan. Very true.
29. How did Peter know how to destroy the virus? Holding it in his hand and zapping it? Well whatever. It doesn't matter. I guess he showed a moment of creativity.
30. Wait, I thought Maya was dead. Oh right. That was the healing blood.
31. Why didn't it occur to anybody to inject Elle with the healing blood? You know, to fix her arm?
32. I still don't understand the point of this stuff with Monica being kidnapped by the gangsters. Who are those people? Why do we care about them? Oh right, we don't.
33. I thought Nikki didn't have her super strength anymore. She took down that gangster guy pretty easily though.
34. Nikki's gonna die in this fire.
35. Oh my gosh... that is completely terrifying. Hiro put Adam in a coffin and buried him. Wow. Okay.
36. This all seems sort of wrapped up. Where's the cliffhanger? I know there's one coming.
37. Oh. Is that it? Nathan got shot? Seriously? Come on. Haven't we already seen that certain people's blood can bring people back to life?
38. And Sylar's powers are back. Goody. Next season we can look forward to more brain eating.
39. I'm sorry, but that was kind of a let down. I know, it's the strike. It's screwing everything up. Well, hopefully next season will be better.

why is saving the world always your responsibility?

I know, I didn't write about the previous two episodes. I was having a fit of conscience and refused to watch them online like I normally do because of the strike. Unfortunately for the WGA (whom I still fully support) my conscience has been sated and I really just want to watch my shows. So now that I got caught up over Thanksgiving break when I was home, I'm back to watching on nbc.com.

1. I think Sark is really funny. "Peter... why are you yelling. What is wrong with you. Stop that."
2. Victoria Pratt... sounds like that's the other lady in the picture. Oh, and there. Now Sark's going to point at her in the picture. Okay... now... and... THERE WE GO. I was right. Thanks Sark.
3. I like Sark's hair. It's all messed up in the back. It's cute. Aww.
4. Sorry.
5. Lyle must be really confused about all of this. Has anybody explained to him what the deal is with their moving and name changing and stuff?
6. "How was I supposed to know that Bennett teamed up with West the flying boy?" Ha Veronica. You're still psychotic but sometimes you are funny.
7. Oh, so it was Mohinder that brought Noah Bennett back to life.
8. Mohinder is kind of an idiot. I do agree that Mr. Bennett is really paranoid, but Mohinder is just blindly believing the Company and I think that's a mistake.
9. OH YEAH... that one Monica girl. I remember her.
10. How does the virus get transferred? Nikki said it isn't contagious so I don't get it.
11. "It's my backpack! It's gone!" Why is that relevant?
12. Maya is stupid. Can't she see how disturbing and creepy Sylar is?
13. Why is Sylar trying to help Maya? Just to get rid of Alejandro?
14. Sark, Peter doesn't need a gun to get the job done. Seriously.
15. "You are like a hamster making a nest." OH HIRO.
16. Hiro, I think you should listen to Ando. Going back in time is not a great idea. Going forward is fine though. Because none of that is set in stone, so you can mess it up all you want.
17. I'm not sure who is the good guy here. Sark (okay, fine, Adam) or Hiro's dad and the rest of the Company.
18. I think it's kind of cool to see the "young founders" of the Company.
19. Wait, why can't Peter get back to the future? When was that established? Did I miss something?
20. Maya, that's a real newspaper article you idiot. "I don't believe it!" Give me a break.
21. Isn't what Sylar said kind of true, about his mom dying? It was an accident right? I can barely remember that episode. Not that it matters - so he wasn't guilty of that one murder. That doesn't change much about the ones he is guilty of.
22. Why would Adam want to release the virus? Just because he's mean? Maybe he wants to start a new world order that is just made of people with powers or something. I hope not though. I want Adam to be a good guy.
23. "She was about to take your head off. There's no coming back from that one." So that's how it works. I suspected as much. I thought it would be fairly strange if they could just grow a new head.
24. Whoa, so Alejandro speaks English now? Well, not anymore now that he's dead, but whatever.
25. Is Maya going to become a villain now? That would make her a lot more interesting.
26. I love Claire and West. I don't care what anybody else says.
27. WHY WOULD SOMEONE STEAL MICAH'S BACKPACK. This seems like a totally pointless storyline.
28. Am I supposed to like Mohinder? Because I go back and forth on that. I think he has genuine intentions but he's still not very good at the non-science part of his job. I do think getting rid of the viruses is a good plan though. Not sure how I feel about him locking up Mr. Bennett at the beginning of the episode though.
29. That's a good hiding place, Micah. Behind the lamp post.
30. So Monica got kidnapped by a bunch of gangsters. And she's never seen a movie that'll show her a decent way to get out of that. Come on. She could have even watched an episode of Scrubs to learn that. You know, the one where Turk and Todd take on the paramedic ninjas.
31. Well Claire's certainly toughened up.
32. OHHHHH now they know that Sylar's alive.
33. Okay, how does Maya not see that breaking into Mohinder's house where his sort of daughter is sleeping is NOT the best way to go about getting help. Come on. It's called "make an appointment." How does Sylar have Mohinder's cell phone number anyway?
34. So Peter and Hiro are going to duke it out. I think that if it really came to that, Peter would win. But we'll see.
35. It seems like everybody wants to save the world but nobody approves of each other's methods. I just want to know who's the good guy and who's the bad guy (besides Sylar). I think things will start getting much more interesting now that Sylar is coming back into play.

Wow Bob hit the scene with major goals, huh?
Elle is seriously unstable. Peter can't really still be that naive, right? I mean... C'Mon, Pete! Let's just trust this stranger who seems to have been living for 300 years with nothing to show for it...??
I don't know about that whole curative blood thing... Yeah it heals, but that's so simple its annoying.
I kind of think there's still more to the Nikki mirror thing... I suppose it could just be the way Kring shows her split-personality. I mean, not everything is power related I guess.
Is Bob, Elle's dad?

Mama Petrelli... I really want to like you. Could you stop being so maniacal?
